Do People Actually listen to Music

We get regulars who'll buy a couple of albums a day, often including a new release or two, which begs the question if they are in record shops all the time and they work (some wear suits and look educated) when do they listen to the music. The main time I get to listen to music (though not always of my choosing) is at work and thats only coz I toil in a shop that sells the stuff. If I'm at home I usually watch DVDs or write self indulgent rants that no-one reads or make dinner. I suppose they must not do much in the evening or maybe they have iPods so travel and digest or listen to stuff at work on computers from the InterCyberWebSpaceNet; but then surely they don't need to go into record shops????

The point is, does anyone actually care about the actual music they are listening to? Judging by the fact that the following bands exist then NO ... Oasis (still???) The Libertines, The Stills, The Vines, The Shining, The Drains, The Knobs, The Handlebars (some of these might have been made up) Not only do they exist but people seem to care about them.

Its all a sham because it appears the record industry thrives on people owning music that they don't listen but says they FIT IN. With their friends, their workmates, their perception of themselves, their lifestyle,. Ooo! I just bought the new Outkast album, so that makes me black and funky when I really I just work in call centre, ... I haven't actually listened to it because its, like, 2 cds and all ... but please think I'm down with it ... please love me.

Maybe they will listen to some of it; stick on the first track or ... that single, y'know the one I heard on that tedious breakfast radio programme or was it the Shit Awards .. d'uh I'm so clueless i've turned into a lickle puppy who buys records that keep crap music around forever, which keeps the major record labels in control and leaves good independent music made by people who actually care, stifled and ignored!

Therapy is going well, thanks ...
